Hi all,

an upcoming job requires me to need an assitant, this will only be for a couple of days. No technical expertise is required, I have people on hand if I need that, I just need another set of hands. I have friends who would help me out but it still leaves a few questions.
First, can I employ someone as a sole trader?
Assuming I can, how do I go about paying them, tax,NI etc.
Do I need to get them extra insurance, if indeed insurance can be got on a daily basis!
Where do I get someone? (assuming I dont use a friend) I dont want a dosser from the job centre (no offence to genuine people that have to go into one of those god forsaken places).
I think thats it for now

Thanks

That's tricky if it really is for a couple of days. You really don't want to open the can of worms that employing people is.

If it was me, I would use a friend or family, and pay them from my own drawings, or you might be able to find a self-employed person who could invoice for their services.

Have to agree, in this instance I would think of a friend or family as well.

Go for a mate and find the cash, or hire a virtual PA who is local and will come out and work for you as a sub contractor who can invoice

If you hired a sole trader then they would be responsible for their own NI and income tax.

I'm a sub-contractor and my contract states that I must have all relevant insurance before working on site.

Thanks all,

Looks like I'll "hire" a friend
