What about your business brings you the most joy?
What about your business brings you the most pain?
I get the most joy from the independence of running my own show, and from listening to chuffed customers. The painful bit is the lack of a fixed end-of-month payday (though I wouldn't change it for the world!)

The most joy comes from having very happy customers at the end of each project. Knowing that you have surpassed their expectations is the best bit.
As for the pain bit - it used to be the VAT but now that I am into the swing of it, its really easy !

When I had my bakery, the best bit was going home after a shift and the worse bit was the health and hygiene annual inspection. They are very scary people and I would dread them at our shop. I never kept up with their stupid paperwork and they used to moan at me.
It was a waste of time the paperwork, I read up and it wasn't law to do it, so I didn't and it annoyed them to death

It will give me most joy when I can do it full time and give up the day job, but at the moment it's getting happy customers and gaining repeat business.
Most pain is quoting someone and drawing out designs never to hear from them again.

Seconded.
My joy from business is the side benefits: having friends on here like Claire, Jayne, Jacqui and Nic. Oh, and Annthedon on her brief appearances  .

MOST JOY . . . Having an idea in the middle of the night, getting up in the morning and looking at the feasibility.
MOST PAIN . . . Keeping focussed

Joy is knowing I should never have to work for anyone else again. It's also satisfying seeing a business do well that I started from scratch.
Pain is having to do the accounts or when I have the odd quiet day.

Joy - letters from the Revenue confirming that a client is due a tax refund :D .
Pain - Clients with crap records that keep me up half the night trying to reconstruct their books :x .

Definitely. All the time you put into their specs, the discussions, the alterations and so on, with hours of phone calls, only for them to say you're too expensive...when you gave them a base price after the first chat.

JOY = when I reach a goal for my own business or for a client's business and get some great feedback that can keep me buzzing for days.
PAIN = when there's a month or 2 of really low income...I just hate the feeling of restriction.

Joy - I really love what I do and I really like getting letters and testimonials from my customers. I also love talking to lots of new people all the time and really helping them with their business and marketing problems.
Pain - erm... nothing.

This thread is making me nervous. I keep thinking that people are addressing me personally until I remember the title of the thread.

Sorry Joyous, no wrecklessness intended!
Thanks for all these responses everyone. It seems that having happy customers gives most of us joy.
When I was working back in the corporate sector (under my then name of A12117), my joy was leaving work for the day, and my pain was going to work.
How things have changed...
