This is not really business related but will ask anyway....
Is there such a thing as a standard Tax code that someone would be on if for example they work 40 hours a week at £5.80 an hour and it is there only job.
Also what is the easiest way to work out what the Tax and NI would be on the above job?

'standard personal allowance' is £6475
use a paye calculator to work out take home - plenty around. Just google it

Have you thought about tax credits? An individual with a modest income like this may qualify for something. Of course it depends on so many other things, but it is something to think about.

this advice is only half accurate as there are different allowances depending if you ar under or over 65, give the employee a P46 if they do not have a p45 when they start work, the p46 determines which tax code to use.
