Hello. I have completed my first years accounting and wish to continue into the new year. When i back up and enter a new year end, will i still be able to access the data from the previous year. When i checked my hard drive after backing up it was not in the format i was expecting to see or understand. thanks

Yes you can still see the previous year, and post transactions into the previous year as necessary after you have run the year end program.

As regards the backups what are you expecting to see?

Though I should add that backing up onto the same HDD isn't a backup at all. Failure of an HDD is a question of when, not if, so it's vital to backup to external media, eg a USB disc, or preferably two of them.

As a non expert i was expecting to see something similar to the tas logo i could click on and up pops the programme. It appears to be broken down into its various sections. I totally agree with your" when not if"comment as i have been caught before, did try to back up to disc but i couldnt highlight the option. cheers

It will be by design that it does not open the program from the backup, as there would be a risk of accidentally entering new data into the wrong database. It can only really have one 'live' database if data integrity is to be maintained. One can of course restore a backup from within TAS, at which point the backup becomes the 'live' database.

If you cannot backup direct to a USB disc, nothing to stop you copying the backup (which on my version of TAS is actually a ZIP archive) from your PC to a USB disc.

I think different versions of TAS have different rules about what files can be where. My version allows storage of both the live database and backups on a network server, which in turn gets backed up to a couple of offsite datacentres.
