As a VAT registered company, most the suppliers charge us +vat
I have placed an order and it is "INC VAT" but the VAT rate is 0% as its coming from abroad.
My question is: This purchase needs to go through the accounts effectively, as +VAT effectively?
Any advice appreciated.

Your suppliers don't charge you VAT because you are VAT registered they charge VAT because THEY are VAT registered.
You have to add VAT to anything you sell (in the UK etc) and you can claim VAT back on anything you buy that includes VAT. If you didn't pay VAT that's fine, it's common for very small businesses not to be VAT registered.

Are they based in the EU? If you gave you supplier your VAT number and they are also VAT registered in a EU country, they do not charge you VAT. There is a box on the VAT return for purchases made in the EU.
If they are outside the EU, they don't charge you VAT but you will pay VAT on entry to the UK either through a courier (DHL, Fedex, UPS and the likes) or a shipping agent.
