hi everyone, sorry to be so forward with my first post!
i have a website selling baby products and toys, and i wanted to get an adwords account set up and a friend suggested an agency they use and are really happy with.
i wanted to ask you guys about the prices though, its £100 set up fee and £75 a month manangement fee, with no minimum contract length and i can have the account back if i decide to do it myself.
is that a good deal?
thanks

It's a lot less than I'd charge. IMHO to do PPC properly requires quite a bit of time testing and analysing. Ask them if they split test ads and landing pages... Bet you a tenner they don't :-)
Ultimately, you could try them out, you'll soon know if it's profitable. Depends if you want to risk a couple hundred quid...

Me, too.
What people charge can expected to be at least...
estimate of time they'll spend on your campaign x their hourly rate
£75 a month is unlikely to be more than 3 hours spent looking at the account. (Possibly a lot less.)
Hope this helps,
Steve

it does sound too cheap, but i guess it's really down to how big your ad campaigns are going to be. for example if you're a soletrading piano tuner in brighton, it takes no time at all to set up / manage that account.

most agencies charge 10% of the monthly advertising budget ..

Except then there is a conflict, as manager loses out by optimising campaign.

i think there's 3 primary ways that agencies charge:
- flat monthly fee
- percentage of spend
- pay per performance (i.e. conversions, etc)

I would say those prices are very reasonable.
Meet with the company, and understand exactly what you will get for your money, however, and gain some level of personal rapport with these people. If they are good, they could become a key part of your supply chain!

I would want to know exactly what they have achieved for your friend and what they plan to do for you, with some kind of guarantee (if that is even possible)
If you do decide to go with them please update us as I am sure a hard working reasonably priced company would do well from here.
It may be that it is a one mum show willing to work from home for £10ph which would give a fair bit of time for £75

I cant imagine for any instance that this is going to be a good service? I wholehartedly agree with all of the posts above and couldnt see my co. charging so little If you take a guestimate of £25-£35 p hour for a qualified person to manage your account this relates to a few hours to build and also a few hours a MONTH to manage...in my opinion it just cant be done...you say that you have baby products are there alot? if it is just 1 then there may be a reason for this and i can help you do this on your own!! With many products there will be testing involved culling of keywords restructuring of accounts new ad creations and this is all before you even take into account summaries to keep the client up to date! How else do they get involved ? do they offer google product assistance (free feed) make suggestions on social media pages like FB that could help or even take campagins over to other search engines? PPC is according to some easy and expensive! Not true i have seen so may companies take advantage of this and offer thesesort of fees for next to nothing! You will end up paying for someone else to do it again in 6 months....oh and be sure to own the account yourself and not them;-)

It doesn't work for me I'm afraid.
As others have said, for that amount of money, the amount of time spent on the account would not be enough to make it worthwhile which would mean a poor return on your investment.
If I were you, I would manage it myself whilst it's in it's infancy and then hand it onto one of the pro's once you have a larger budget to play with.
It may mean spending more in the long run, but if successful, which it should be, then you spend more to make more which is the way that most things work:)
Cheap can sometimes be false economy.
