I am in the process of starting a blog and about to register a domain. I want complete control over it so I need to organise the hosting myself. I usualy use 34sp but they are not quite pricey and I wanted something where the uploads and everything will work out of the box

Any suggestions? I don't want to pay any more than £15 a year for the hosting at this stage but if it grows I can always change hosts etc.

Most hosts should be fine but I use Vidahost.com (http://www.vidahost.com) for My Blog (http://www.chrislowthian.co.uk).

Their packages start from £17 a year (with free domain name) but if you look in my signature you can also an extra 10% OFF :)

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks looks like you've got yourself a new customer. And I also like your other multi host packages. It would solve a lot of issues for me as most my existing sites are very low bandwidth it would be cheaper to merge them all in Jan when I need to renew it.

Hi I'm looking at that basic package for £17. I'm going to be using it for wordpress. My newbie question is, why would I need to spend more than £17? 500MB is plenty right?

Yes - our £17 package is absolutely fine for a standard Wordpress install.

If you end up exceeding that 500MB limit, we can always upgrade you to a higher level package for no penalty in cost - just the pro rata difference.

I've been using hostgator for the past few years and they've been great, apart from a few strange rules about CMODing and also besides the fact you can't set up certain types of sites like arcade sites. There service is excellent and the price isn't half bad.

This is such a slow, painful process. It looks SOOOOO simple on the tutorials!

So after over 4 hours I finally managed to get wordpress hosted, but it was on a sub-directory 'admin'. I moved the files to the main directory and now it's not displayed properly.

Why did it go to a subdirectory, and why is it now not displayed properly?

Why is this taking me so long?! Is it me? There's about four 2-minute steps on the tutorials, and every single step I get to it doesn't work properly and I have to spend an hour researching.

OK! Figured that all out now.
