I want to learn how to build a web site including database info... I know I could understand this stuff but i need a site/book or something that will give me condensed tutorials to work around.

Can anyone reccomend something to me on a tight budget?

Thanks

What about 4 years design training? Then start using software to design and build.

Maybe they mean at University, and getting a good grounding in the principles of design before doing web design?

If you can set aside some time a company called Lynda does good courses online, and on video. Start with Dreamweaver, then CSS, then Flash, then Actionscript.

And on day two...

Yep I used the Lynda books when I started learning flash - they are very good

Design in general is a process i am well versed in.. I just need to learn some new tools.

Lynda books.... I'll take a look when i get away from work :-(

Learn PHP (simply cos its free) unless you want .NET which is costly
unless its running on Mono (not completedly stable yet).

PHP is the way to go for now.

Any of the SAMs books I recommend highly. they do the - learn "insert skill here" in 24 hours, and also the - learn "insert skill here" in 10 minutes series.

I agree with Dave, the SAM books are very good if you're looking to buy something textwise.

Personally I prefer the "For Dummies" series to SAM - though my development days were ASP/ ASP.net & MySQL rather than PHP.

I think PHP is going to take me a while to get to grips with. All your advice is gratefully received. I think the SAM books will be my next stop.. The tutorials assume a little too much for me.
