View Full Version : The futility of selling

I came up with an idea a while back to sell a product related to the World Cup. I have sourced the product and was given an RRP by the supplier. Once I've done my sums it works out at a decent %age profit, but a reasonable small actual amount. Considering the RRP is low the amount of work involved in processing orders, packaging, shipping, handling queries etc seems very high indeed.
I have just discovered the futility of selling. Back to the service industry I go, me thinks!

Welcome to my world.
Remember you will make profit when people buy more than one.
Get a lot of easy systems in place to reduce the work and you'll be fine.

I have an awful lot of respect for you!
I've decided to knock my idea on the head, as it's simply not for me.

The problem is your selling one item. You have to have some items which make a reasonable amount of profit to make selling the smaller items worthwhile.

Robert is right, why not sell a few regular lines alongside your special item?
I don't wish to do myself out of business but maybe a few flags or something?
Can your product be adapted for other sporting events? It is a lot of work to set something up for the World Cup.
In my limited experience it is an unpredictable thing because you never know how far the team is going to go and this has a direct effect on sales once the event is underway.
Also, you need it up and running NOW as people are already buying for this event. Get it ready for June and you will be too late.

I think I was a little over ambitious with my project. It hasn't cost me anything (so far), as I've done everything myself and I don't want to start an online shop with complimentary products, as that has it's own implications!
Anybody want to buy some domain names???
