Hi,

I'm a Graphic Designer and around a year ago I started to branch out from the normal design industry and into creating contemporary interior art/murals. I have researched into the service I provide and can only find a hand full of people who offer a similar service in the UK, yet when I mention to people what I do, or when clients see the finished design they think it's fantastic.

The murals I create are all hand painted directly onto the wall and are individually tailored to suit the style and surroundings of each room. Previous projects have included a Japanese tree for an entrance hall and a large, pink cartoon dragon for a little girl’s room. The contemporary wall art could be used in an office, night club, bar, restaurant, bedroom or nursery.

I have looked at several interior design magazines and some have featured articles on artists who create traditional murals or paint effects but nothing similar to what I do. I would like to have a magazine feature a small article/press release on the work I do as I feel there is a strong market for this kind of work.

Does anyone have any advise on how to approach magazines with regards to this sort of thing?

Do I just send an email to the editor asking if they would be interested in writing an article?

What magazines are the best to approach?

Are there any editors in the forum who would be interested?

If you would like to look at some of my murals please visit this link:

Sorry this is such a long posting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Emma

Hi Emma,

I think you need a chat with Claire on here, she does abstract and contemporary art too. Your dragon looked like the same style she did when she did Winnie the pooh stuff, so you could have a lot in common with her.

You need to put together a press release with pictures and then send it to the media you feel would be interested

When I had a mural done in my daughters room the local paper came and took a photo and the mural peopel got some work from that.

We also have a style magazine for Northants, two actually - do you have any in your area? Local publications are always looking for stories.

Hi Emma,

I too do murals and have recently done a cunning piece of PR for myself.

I wrote to my local paper, offering to do a free mural for the first childrens hospice to contact me.

They are running a feature in Fridays paper for me and will follow it up once I have had the request (I know it will come in as I have already spoken to the co-ordinator at LittleHavens - Our local hospice) with more phots etc.

A photographer came round last week to snap me in my studio.

You could always do something similar in your area (please steer clear of Essex though).
I also get features by offering paintings to charity auctions and recently worked with Jodie marsh (see my blog). I have had lots of business from this work and it is also nice to be able to give something back.

Good luck

Claire
