"If its meant to be....you will never get bored or give up on it." They are Mr Richards Bransons words...not mine !

But I do agree.

If I gave up easily my clients wouldn't get paid so I guess I wouldn't have a business to run if I was a defeatist.

As soon as I don't enjoy my 2nd income I'll give it up. I love my fulltime job and love my 2nd job so life is sweet for me at the minute

Only in weeks with a Monday in them.

Surely the whole idea of having your own business is so that it fulfills everything you want from a job. If it doesn't then you're doing something wrong. I would never think about giving up as I love what I do. My business is constantly changing so no two days are ever the same!

I'm a realist - not a fantasist - so - yes, there are times when I feel like giving up - and if I am honest, I would say that anyone who doesn't admit to this has either a) not been in business long enough or b) is not being 100% honest!

Sorry!

My business mentor once said to me - "Businesses don't fail - people walk away from them" and that is true, but we are all human, there are days when clients are unreasonable, there are days when we feel cr*p, there are days when the cash flow is flowing the wrong way - so yes - there are days when I feel like giving up, but luckily it is those things that you have all mentioned that bring me back - they don't stop me from having that initial gut reaction "oh balls - it would be easier to get a job" but they do stop me from taking that step.

I love what I do in the main, but there are elements - as there are in a job - that I don't enjoy! But - 3 years on - I am still self employed - so I must be doing something right!

Right - that is it - the soap box is free!

Do I ever feel like giving up??!!! See my post yesterday in Time Out about needing a drink. Yesterday - absolutely cr*p, wanted to cry, scream, give up and run away all at the same time.

Today - an ok day. Happier to be my own boss and not have to answer to anyone else

Tomorrow? Probably a really good day and I'll remember why I'm self employed - freedom to make your own fortune.

It's all ups and downs. We've had lots of downs recently but, through experience, I know there'll be lots of 'ups' soon too.

Not sure how you make the decision whether to carry on or not.... I guess you can do what we've done - set ourselves a date at which we decide if part of the business is, or isn't working. If it's not by then, we'll change it.

Why the question? Are you fed up?

Yes, I will listen to the market in case I am missing the target.

Yes, I will learn from the frustrations so I can adapt.

Yes, I will learn from my mistakes so I can improve.

Yes, I will constantly reassess my direction in light of our strategy.

Yes, I will double-check that I spend every penny wisely.

No, I will never give up. Never, never, never!

We have grown a lot over the last few years and there are some things in business that you have no control over and as you grow the bigger problems they become.

We have also taken risks and about a year ago did things like, not pay parking fines and spend the money on pay per click advertising!

Now that worked out well for us but other ideas didn't and hence we had several close shaves.

Every business has ruff times, everyone has doubts when things go wrong, but would most of us change it and really give up? No

Of course there will be days when you think about giving up and the reasons for these thoughts can vary.
I had one of those days yesterday, but a moment of clarity hit me at about 10pm last night.
The armstrongs, could i work for other people like that, would i be constantly critisising my new boss?

Atleast in business i decide my outcome and fortune.

I cant really comment as I'm still not up and running properly, but there are always days that I wonder whether to even bother continuing to try and get up and running!

But then I get a lovely order and someone else compliments me on my work and it makes it all worth while again.

As some of you may or may not know, I currently work a full time job as an IT manager working for somebody else.

I have dabelled with 'guvvie' work often, and last year decided to give it a go with my own business while still working full time. I get flexi hours at work so can come and go often throughout the day.

On top of this I have developed my Help Sheets website, and am still working hard developing content.

There are many times when I think 'this is never going to work', or times when I don't get any work for a week or so and I begin to doubt myself. However, when the phone calls and I go and help somebody's business IT problems, it makes it worth it and re invigorates me.

I try and think to myself that if I give up, then I will never be able to lead the life I want, and when I am working on a night I also think what else would I be doing? Watching eastenders? not really missing on too much there am I?

My sentiments exactly Darren. Lets hope that sooner or later we can bite the bullett and go full time.

I have days over last couple of months where I think f*** it, can't handle the stress and wanna put my fist through the window, the only way I get away is to go to boxing and being in my gym gets me away from everything and I get all the tension out on the bag and sparring, I think for me if I didn't box I could not get rid of thes tress at the moment, once things are up and runnng it should be easier though it's the starting off that seems hardest, having the website built can be infuriating when you want a slight alteration done and they spend hours reoding some pages but patience important.

Tell you what drives me though, living ina parrt of London where you see nice cars all the time and big houses enough to make me work 20 hours a day to get some money made!

Never. I don't know why but psychologically i just couldn't do it. There is something in my brain that just stops me even thinking of giving up, anyone else get this?

In the first few years of trading I have thought many times to give up and this has only motivated me to fight on and I see myself as a fighter. At one time I thought the business would fold but my determination prevented this. Here I am 3 years later feeling very secure

I think most business people have thought about giving up. You might give up on one business idea and move onto another. The next time round you'll be a little wiser. Never think of youself as a failure. You tried to do something that others didn't try to do. Others envy us for our courage, but when we fail, they are quick to call us losers. Choose your friends wisely., and never give up.

Have I ever thought about it? Yes, but then I see all the nine to five people on their way to work and take thanks that i am different.
