I use to get a idea and buy a domain name the same day. I ended up with loads of domain names that amount to nothing.

So i think more before i buy now

What i find more interesting is how when you start a business idea, the way it develops from it's original form.

I compared my business plan from 2 months ago when i started to where i am now, and it has grown, and changed and evolved......This is more interesting to me than thinking of lots of new ideas.

Any thoughts

Always have new business/product ideas.

I just don't have enough time to get any new ideas off the ground.

Maybe one day I will have a team of people who can work with me to get all these ideas launched.

all the time, not during the day so much, it is when i go to bed so i don't end up going to sleep. I have to get up and start or look into the idea. Im terrible!

I'd like to thinking about the new idea anytime. It's interesting and challenge. Eventhough I reject many of them..

Ideas can start the engine, but you must be sure your car goes in the right direction. You can't chase every idea like it is a butterfly. To be successful, you need focus. This means that you must choose between ideas carefully and investigate only those that fit with your strategy.

Then comes the analysis of an idea. This takes time, insight, and some ruthless objectivity. There's little point pursuing an idea that is costly, impractical, or meets no real need. Can you make money with your idea or not? Is the idea consistent with your business goals or not? If you waste time on a fruitless idea, you face opportunity costs - money wasted because you didn't spend your time on productive work.

I have to crush my new ideas in favour of the one we are doing at the moment.

I then have lots of ideas for this but then I have to crush them too in order to focus on what is definately making money rather than pie in the sky ideas that might.

Yep - I'm currently embarking on a MBO mediation service. I've observed an interesting paradox.

In short, if the Directors of a company want to invest in a manage buy out, clearly they'll want to buy the company from the shareholder/s for the least amount of money possible. However, in law the Director's first responsibility is to the wellbeing shareholder so there is a potential conflict of interest. As such, there is scope for offering a mediation service to prevent this confilct.

I plan to start offering this service later this year.

I too am too much of a thinker than a doer, but one day I got so fed up with the idea in my head that I wanted to physically see it!

At 1 am I scribbled down, handwritten, a game and designed it to see how it would actually work. Laminated it cut it up and played! What I find amazing is how ideas can be brought to life...

I agree. Now I have the game published in my hand with another one being printed currently, it really spurs you on to act on your ideas.

Though I have about half a dozen very strong ideas I really want to develop but can't stretch myself to do them.

I also spend far too much time thinking about new ideas!

A few years back I even thought about setting up my own airline (long before Easy Jet).

Now ask me how much I know about aviation  , but I figured it would only be a matter of finding a plane in good nick and someone willing to fly it, plus some sandwiches for the passengers. I drew the line at being the air hostess though, because I hate flying........

So yes, it's easy to let the mind wonder ad I have to be really hard on myself sometimes to try and stay focused on what I'm doing!

I made the mistake a few years ago of sitting on an idea and doing nothing with it - 3 years later I saw successful companies doing the very same thing (not saying I would have been one of them, but it was galling nonetheless).

As an organisation we assess all ideas at a top level and establish a business case for proceeding with any that pass the first stage of assessment. Everything is filed whether it is good or not and good ones are pursued.

Innovation makes business successful. If you toss away your ideas you are wasting one of the most critical resources available.

My problem is that I am very good at analysising ideas and validating their opportunities - I am reasonable at identify and implimenting new directions/ avenues etc for existing companies but the one thing I am terrible at doing is actually coming up with a whole new company idea as an isolated thing.... guess that is why I am still an employee rather than a employer

I currently have my first business about to start in the shape of a podcast btu interest already has 17k on a subscriber list but I also have another business on the go and two or three others which with the right ingredients could work out well for all arties.

My only downside is I know sweet FA about websites and all but two of my ideas are internet based so try finding a designer who wants to do it for free in exchange for being a 50/50 partner is impossible, well so far anyway.

When I'm just about sleeping an idea always pops into my head.

I have had an idea for about 10 years now and I still go over it at least
once a month even though I know I will never get it off the ground.
As it cannot be protected and I would need to obtain a licence from
other companies (very very expensive). I have thought about just
handing it to the largest company and hope for some kid of payout,
but I just can't do it

Yes and yes. I know of a dear friend who always comes up with great ideas and then when she knows it has potential she buys the domain and she ends with loads of domain to renew each year.

The only thing she's lacking is a good business mentor and I know she would get these other ideas off the ground if she has time and more funds.

The sad thing is she always discouraged by some families and friends but I tell her you just go girl and don't give up, no harm in trying and taking risk and if you fail at first then just try again, you learn though making mistakes and you get better wiser next time round

Althou the first time I was too young but I dont have any good excuse for the 2 other occasions.

Yep. New ideas come and go all the time. If an idea is still hanging around after a few days ill write it down. If a month down the line its screaming at me to DO IT! then i give in and go for it.

The business im pursuing now came from an idea over a year ago. Ive got bruised shins from all the hurdles ive been hitting but im still going with it. Should see the results in couple of months. Trouble is cos its been over a year (off and on) it feels like theres more pressure on it to work.

Rambling now :)
