I'm currently looking to do a merger of business with another local business, same sector.

The turnover is 110K-125K, with one employee paid monthly, and obviously vat registered. The company is being run as ST and not LTD. His current accountant fee is £1000.

My current accountant has told me £1700 + vat for LTD if I go this way. Is this alittle steep?

My current business is ST and when I asked the cost for doing my SATR was quoted £200. This was giving him a print off from quickbooks.

Should I be looking for a new accountant or are his fees reasonable?

I thank you for any replies,

Andy

Impossible to say, it would depend on quite a few factors, such as number of transactions, how well the bookkeeping has been completed, whether full bank reconcilliations have taken place etc. If you are not happy with the fees, then get a few more quotes, I am sure there will be plenty of accountants in your area, or you could look for an online accountant...there are a few of us on here.

Hi Andy

You'll see a huge variation in accountants fees and as with any service provider you will always find someone who will be cheaper. It depends on what you want from an accountant.

I suspect with that level of fees you are using a traditional high street practice.

If you want to look at what my firm charges have a look here - http://myaccountantonline.co.uk/fees (http://myaccountantonline.co.uk/fees/) bear in mind our fees include monthly bookkeeping and accounts so you dont need to do that yourself at all.

Yes its a shop combined with a mobile workshop.

Thanks for the replies, looks like it comes down to the number of transactions then.

It would be above the 50 standard set on your site Nicola.
At the moment it looks like 50 transactions from the mobile side and possibly 50 - 75 from the shop.
