Is it possible for small local based companies to compete with large national established brands and their marketing campaigns? In particular with consumer/contractor services.

Will a quality service shine through the blitz of national campaigns?

Most definitely on a local basis. You may never have the resources or deep pockets to compete with them on a national basis, but if you operate locally, you can definitely concentrate your campaign better

"Brand marketing" tends to be effective only when you've got a large amount of money to throw at it. So, if you choose to use brand advertising to take on the big boys, you'd probably have to get your name in front of the prospect as often as they do.

(and, remember, they might have already been in fron of the client dozens of times)

If you choose to advertising, I'd recommend you forget about "brand marketing" and focus on direct response marketing that promotes the benefits of doing business with you.

However, before you spend money on ads, I'd suggest that you look at relationship marketing.

You probably already have relationships with people who could introduce you to your prospects.

For example, your own clients could probably give you far more referrals than you get at the moment. If you want more clients, why not start there?

If those nationals are in the same business as you then you are competing with them already. If you are growing your market then you are succeeding.

By "national" marketing it sounds like you mean advertising nationally. Steve's advice is good in that you should consider other cheaper and more effective options long before.

That all sounds like good advice to me.

Thank you,
