Ok guys, I'm biting the bullet here..............
I have decided to spend a little bit of money on Google adwords. I think it will help to promote my Clarice Cliff product range as well as my corporate art work.
Any tips to get me started?

set your spend so you don't pay too much.
Ensure that you track sales if you can.
land people who click the link right onto the relevant page so they don't have to hunt around to find the things they are interested in.
Make your ad clear as to what you are selling and try and make it interesting to click on.
look out for key words that are specific to what you are selling. Just bidding on Clarice Cliff might bring a lot of traffic who are only interested in her pottery and not your art.
Watch that return on investment. You can spend a lot on PPC and not see the money back in sales if you are not careful.

I've just set up one ad for now focussing on my art work and set a month budget of £25.00.
If it works this month then I'll try the clarice out next month.

Claire, something to try later on is to set your daily budget a lot higher for the first week of the month and then drop it again. You're more likely to get your ads displayed if you have a bigger daily budget.
Adwords can work really well. For one thing I do I spend about £30 a month and make over £1k in sales. For something else I spend about £800 a month and make a few hundred in sales.

I had great success advertising the lottery syndicate when you were allowed to. Now its a big no no. I did find however since your paying for the clicks its best to mention the price, so they know straight away the cost

Hi Claire
Adwords is the most sensational direct response marketing vehicle in the history of marketing. Never before in the history of advertising has it been possible to spend £5, write a couple of ads, and get access to millions people in less than 10 minutes.
Before you even consider the technicalities of putting a adwords campaign
together, you need to understand a basic truth. My guiding philosphy is:
"Become Your Customer"
You've probably heard this a thousand times but so many people fail to follow it, your customer doesnt give a damn about you,
your company or what you sell. All they care about is "whats in it for me?"
Keeping this basic truth etched into your mind, you need step back a bit and review your offerings from your prospects point of view. You have a website, so is the page your prospect is going to land on, aligned with the question that she was asking?
remember she has a question in her mind so answer it?Promise in your adwords ad to provide a solution in the form of abenefit and then lead her to the solution.
Keyword research is critical to your success, so review your keywords in the context of
a) Your Own Business
b)Adwords Profitability
What your looking for Claire when researching keywords is as follows: High number of searches for keywords/keyphrases that are not so
competitive so not only will you get seen on the first page but your cost per click will be minimum. Providing you've written a good adwords ad, and it continues with the same theme when the prospect clicks through to the landing page, your CTR (Click Through Rate) will be high, your bid prices for keywords and keyphrases will be reduced and Google will reward you with a high position, because the "RELEVANCY" of your ad.
Your cost per click and daily budget depends on the keywords and keyphrases you select. Try to spend your time putting together a long keyword list, this is the key difference between companies who spend spend spend, who dont know the value per visitor and the educated marketer who careful selects word and phrases which receive alot of searches which has virtually no competition, all because you took that bit longer finding those golden words.
Any questions please dont hesistate to get in contact. I've outlayed a solid foundation to help you get started, which is more sensible than a information overload message.
Just did a quick search and identified the following broad phrases with low competition and a number of searches for the last month:
1)london contemporary art
2)contemporary art exhibitons
3)contemporary painter
4)themes in contemporary art
thats just scratching the surafce. Try ad's with mugs, mousemats, bags, to get added exposure to your website.
Your at an advantage because the products you create are tailor made for your prospect, therefore theirs a unlimted amount of niches within contemporary art you can exploit.
Wishing you all the success in the world

Really agree with this: when I use adwords now I usually try and give some indication of prices, to try to make sure that the people who click are people who are prepared to pay that amount.
I just wish there was a way to stop competitors clicking, just to be nosey!

Thought I'd heard a lot of that before! (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22Never+before+in+the+history+of+adverti sing+has+it+been+possible%22)
I'd be interestd in hearing more about your services though Paul. We spend quite a bit per month on PPC and I'm sure it could be done better. I've just not yet found a cost-effective way of outsourcing it

Claire, why not add Google Adsense on to your website, on a number of pages where you get good traffic.
In one hand your giving money to Google, and in the other your getting it back.
Whatever I earn from Google Adsense, I spend the same on Google Adwords.

Its all up and running.
Darren - I did used to have adsense but I think it looks a bit messy. I know I hate sites that are covered in ads.
