Travel expenses

Hello
I was wondering how doeas it work.
If employer pays for my travel (travel card or for petrol )to work this is my extra income.It was added to my salary.He hes to pay Class 1A NICs and I have to pay.
Some companies offer a job with travel expenses plus sallary.What is better for employee and employer?
