We're set up as non resident agents with HMRC, we submitted a CT return online for a UK client. We've received about five different assessments and they each have a different liability due to inerest and penalties. When we check the liability online it shows the liability as paid and no interest and no penalties.

I can't get thru to HMRC in Aberdeen 0044 (0) 1224 401772, I've also sent a fax but no reply.

We also want to change the year end for next year but cannot get thru to revenue.

Anyone have any ideas on the best course of action?

Hi,

Your problem is not uncommon. Firstly keep calling the HMRC office until you get a hold of someone. When you do, get their name and designation.

Also follow up ALL your calls with a written letter confirming what you have been advised or what actions you are already taking.

For clarity work within the rules or guideline that you have from HMRC.

That way you will always have a fall back, that you have worked or acted on their advice.

Thanks for input. Although it seems like a lot of time and effort i.e. calling, writing, follow up....

IMO always deal in writing with HMRC. Telephone calls on such issues are often a waste of time and leave no clear trial of conclusions reached.

It may be a hassle but "tax doesn't have to be taxing" NOT :D
