Hi, back again :)

What form is used to notify HMRC that all fuel is paid by the employer? Both work related and personal usage of fuel.

Do I not have to notify, or is it worked out with the information I put on the P11D form, ie the C02 emissions, employee contribs (or lack of them) and value of personal contributions for personal useage (or lack of them)

Confused/Forgetful :)

it's on the P11d !!!!

Have you got one to hand?

Have a read of the notes to accompany it :):)

They do help

So is that a no then to the question?

As the only mention of fuel payments ie all fuel paid is in section F for 'Cash Equivalent' which is fine but this is not a equivalent!! But actual cash!!

There appears to be no section marked, something like

Input all cash paid for fuel in year 09/10

Or something else along those lines to notify HMRC that all fuel was paid for the employee.

Fuel payments are a BIK as defined on the notes to the P11d and here on the HMRC web site for the calculator:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs/cars.htm

The cash paid by the employer is irrelevant - use the calculator for the BIK.

Maybe seek help from an accountant on this. :)

So the answer is yes then?

Maybe I didn't ask the question clearly enough.

All fuel used by employee in a company car is paid for by the employer.

Therefore when filling out a P11d I answer the questions in Section F for the car usage....there is no separate area of the form for the amount of fuel spent running a company car?

I was just confused :)

As for the link, I presume that is to work out the additional tax to be charge and has nothing to do with what I need to fill in on P11D?

In so far as I am not interested in what the tax will be, I am happy for the tax office to read the P11d and car form to work out what tax code I should be on. :)

You don't enter the actual amount spent on fuel. The benefit in kind is assessed on a scale which depends on the CO2 emissions of the car. The figure is entered into the relevant box in section F

The employee may be better off paying for personal fuel. If there is little or even modest personal mileage the employee (and therefore also the employer) may be better off paying for private fuel rather than been taxed at the very high rate HMRC attach to private fuel.

David Griffiths - Thanks for that. I understand now...

Secondly all my engineers have a company credit card, so therefore do I not have to enter anything in Section N?

Being that they are never reimbursed. As they never paid anything out off their own cash?

Just to confirm that you are talking about company cars and not company Vans the rules are different.

Show them the reduced tax on a van and some of them may change their minds.
