Hi all,

Just wanted to know anyone's opinions on the future of the UK SEO/digital marketing industry.

Do you feel it is a good industry to go into in the medium and long term?
What is and likely will be the impact of outsourcing to Indian and elsewhere?

Any opinions, comments, thoughts?

Yeah, good market potential, but things are changing. Get in, stay flexible and ready to have to learn new tricks on a monthly or weekly basis and you should be ok.
Outsourcing? We may be the ones who are outsourced to, we will be the cheap labor imo. But for now, there are some really good teams in India and the Philippines, you just need to test them out fully before passing any important work, and have back ups in place.

I think anyone who wants to save a few quid should directly deal with india. The prices in the uk arent exactly cheap are they.

Also from what i gather a lot of companies in the uk pass there work to india and cream off the top.

Maybe there should be a thread started about the best seo's to use in india.

Nothing personal directed to anybody from India reading this post as i am sharing my own personal views on past experiences.

The outsourcing stigma from India has worn off and many large organizations are bring it back to in house, but we have developed a close relationships with people in the Philippines that have a different outlook to work, and not to say Yes we can do it then make a huge mess.

if you're ok with the odd power outage plus the current bad weather you can get lost of good work completed,

The biggest markets on the web are the following; not listed in and order

Money Markets
Online Dating
Health & Fitness
Internet marketing

if you can fit you business model you will be stable for a a long time

UK prices reflect the UK cost of living. People in the UK could charge the same rates as Indian companies but wouldn't be in business very long.

I have concerns over the quality of outsourcing and wonder if they basically serve the link spam end of the market. I've asked many Indian companies to supply details of work and have never seen anything except link spam and dross, perhaps I've been unlucky.

To really get the best out of a outsourcing company you must first implement a very solid process for them to follow.

Do not take it for granted that they know everything about SEO etc and understand your business requirements as everybody has a different objective in gaining website presents.

The will not know about your product or service also it may have a total different meaning within there country of origin , so outline what you want to be done first or consult somebody that has this process in place with some first hand some experience.

Yeah good advice. Its the same with anything, if your paying low prices you need to put a little extra time in.

I think there should also be a clear difference made between outsourcing (which is passing on work wholesale), subcontracting part work, and employing people offshore full time as if they were in the UK.

There is a vast difference between those methods, so we shouldn't group them all as if they were the same.

If I was you I would be spending a month or more traveling the world and visiting a few outfits face to face. I notice you are expanding in Edinburgh well done. I have no idea how big you intend getting but quality support for your trade is available in many countries.

Research can be done remotely but like all great deals face to face is critical and this is even more so when dealing with different cultures.

My team in India (inhouse not outsourced) used to work for the biggest seo company in UK, We have helped many seo comapnies across glove to grow huge and now we have launched our own direct service to the clients under our own brand giving our clients the best possible value for money and complementing it with Excellent support from UK itself...
Can it get any better ?

I have outsourced some work to India and had a good and bad experience, but there again i have used some people in the UK that you would expect to be experts by the way they talk and had the same, the indian and Phillipino's are very cheap compared to the UK guys but as stated the cost of living is cheaper.

I personally think it dont matter where you choose to work its more important to do your homework and get some references of work done then choose your outsorced partner, its really easy to get it wrong.

Well India is a good market for long term.

Here in India, you will find all type of companies providing services. You will find the cheapest and the costliest service provider. I have clients from UK who had mixed results some are happy and some are not at all ok with quality of service.

So it is important to choose a right partner. The mutual understanding is very important in between both of you.

You can also try us with a small project and see how we can work out.
