Hi Shelley

I am going to install a couple of large lcd monitor screens to advertise special offers treatments etc. in our Salon, I am going to use a PC and maybe Power Point or something similair to present the information.
Are you going to show live TV? You will need a licence and maybe a public performance licence. How do you feel about the staff getting to engrosed in the TV and not paying attention to their work!!
There is a definite need to advertise special offers but I would be cautious about TV.
Regards.

As a regular customer of Toni & Guys I would be put off with the monitors featuring adverts, special offers etc. I would like to see it connected to SKY showing perhaps FashionTV or MTV etc - customers will feel more value for money. I get a complimentary coffee/biscuit and newspaper which is why I pay 34 pounds for a haircut!

My salon has small 17'' monitors at each seat showing MTV usually.

Not sure of the full value of the screen as the stylists normally engage the clients in conversation anyway and there isnt a screen near the area where the rinsing and application of colour is. Its only when they leave clients for the colour to take that would benefit.

I suppose what you might show also depends upon the age/interest profile of you client base.

you will of course require a license to this type of thing and a sky subscription or freeview box and splitter.

I hear Sky charge more for a business install and subscription than they do for residential.

You may like to consider getting a non-Sky system. Fashion TV is FTA on one or two satellites in additition to the position Sky use (as far as I remember), and you would get a lot of other FTA music channels anyway. I love the idea of Fashion TV being on.

I've seen it done in a few ways, but if you look out for a set with DVI input (and output from your PC on a DVI port) those Powerpoint presentations will look much better, in my opinion, as you're running it as a monitor using the native pixel thingy rather than as a TV set.

thanks all, have found out about license already, but cant find a site on internet that does them.
Hopefully staff wont be put off, not going to do normal vieiwng though.
Althogh is just an idea at mo, want to sound out clients and staff first. It may come to nothing.

Hi Shelley,

Where are you based? I operate a flat screen advertising business and have screens that will entertain as well as inform your customers of special offers that you have available.

Prices are very very affordable.

PM me if you need more info

Cheers

I am being overcharged then! Mine costs more than that!! I love Toni & Guy, it's the head massage when having your hair washed, the free cup of coffee and the mints on the counter as you leave. I enjoy watching the TV while my hair is being washed but wish it matched the music that was coming out of the speakers!! I could also do with something to distract me from the mirror, it makes my hair look grey and my face look fat (oh yeah sorry, my hair is grey and my face is fat - I just avoid mirrors normally!!)

Not sure I would want the TV to just show offers, I bough the Tangle Tease for my daughter as the display was in front of the sinks and I could see it whilst having my hair washed. It had a subtle price offer and wasn't "in your face".

Live music in the workplace increases staff morale & productivity. It's a service we have recently launched at our company, installing audio & visual system sin salons & beuaty establishments.

You will need a normal TV License (139quid) and a PRS music license. For a salon you will pay £69+vat for the first 5 stylist chairs and £25 for each 5 after that. That will cover you for tv & radio.

Sky is quite expensive for businesses when you think you can have freeview on instead and have the likes of The Hits, TMF, Sma****s, Music Factory etc for free.

I always have music on while I am working, I agree it increases productivity. I would love to be able to watch MTV or music channels while having hair coloured etc.

I can offer that service if you know any salons in the east that are interested.
