Part 1 of 3 about Google and how it's algo is potentially flawed. Worth a read.

Fair enough!
I must admit, I still like to buy my own copy and leaf through a real, physical, newspaper.
This new fangled technology ...!
Have found the article online:

although I had to register (free) to be able to view it.

Thanks for the Link - a good read indeed.
I have been involved in several threads in the last few weeks about the power Facebook now has.
IMO Technorati and others whose loss of traffic this article is focused are just the sort of sites who could benefit by using Facebook (or other social media) as their primary source of traffic and thus becoming far less dependant on Google.
As the article says: "Google’s engineers are making judgements very similar to the editorial decisions made at a more traditional media organisation".
Social media sites however are leaving these judgements to the collective votes of their members - if a site like Technorati is popular it will get traffic, benefit from viral growth, and will be able to 'push' its content to its readers.
Google and other 'traditional' search engines are still [obviously] the best place to search for specific on-page content - but I for one am glad that 'social recommendation' is fast becoming an alternate means of getting noticed on the internet.
Regards
Dotty
ps I know sites like Digg and Stumbleupon have been doing this for years but Facebook are currently taking this to a whole new level.
