you mean, for no payment at all... like, totally free?
Your best bet is to find a PR company that is just starting up and is really desperate to build a portfolio cos they are struggling to find clients... but then, I think someone once said something about you pay peanuts you get monkeys... hmm, think it was David Chipperfield?

Hi Andy,
You are right & nothing is FREE in this world. It looks like, everything is very competitive & make life harder for number of small businesses out there. :( Even, in some cases "You pay thousands & You don't even get Peanuts"

You pay us a few thousand and I guarantee there would be a packet of lightly roasted KP's winging there way over to the Click2 address (ask Jayne, she got Wotsits from jill and didn't have to pay a penny!)
Why don't you do what others with low budgets do on here... have a go at a release, post it and then ask for help... and do the same with your current marketing campaigns.
That way you get help and you also help others on here, plus, in the end the need for PR people will be eradicated and I can concentrate on our new business venture with Nigel from fast fences... "I dig it, he fills it"

Just an idea, and bear in mind I only started on here today.
Could we not have a co-operative of advertising. It seems everyone here has some sort of web presence there trying to build and if everyone here manages to move some traffic around soon enough it will benefit the whole site. I may however not know what I'm talking about, and should probably keep quiet :?

There are a few newbies who set out to do free PR work in exchange for a chance to showcase their 'talents'.
70% of them usually make a pigs ear of the whole operation and end up harming your business.
OK you may get lucky and end up with some promising feedback, but in my humble opinion you need a company with good contacts, with excellent knowledge of the PR world, good ideas and solid experience.
Armed with all that, I can't imagine that they would want to do work for nowt.

If you pay peanuts, you tend to get monkeys, but if you're on a low (or no) budget then I appreciate you have a dilemma.
Andy's idea of writing something yourself and posting it here would be a good starting point and then any of us pr/marketing bods who are able, can give you a few pointers.
It's worth a try at least.
Lindsey.

If you pay peanuts, you tend to get monkeys,
And if you pay nothing, you get nothing.
There's a difference between "not free" and things being 'competitive & making life harder for small businesses'
You wouldn't expect Dell to provide you with a free PC so why should you expect free service from marketting people? At the end of the day, if you use the right people they will add to your bottom line.

Lisa,
If you are after something for free and that is your only option why not consider something that you can give to the PR firm in return.
If you can trade some form of service that you provide with somebody that provides PR services it might be an alternative. You could also always ask them for a "payment on success" kind of deal but it is unlikely that you would get it.

There's no such thing as free.
In business you have to learn lessons. I spent £300 on Yell.com a few years back, and got 3 visitors from the link - and would I do it again?
Lindsey and Andy, are experts on PR's, so do like they have mentioned, post your press release and let them look over it.

Darren,
How very kind of you to say so sir.... much appreciated.
I feel i should jump in at this point and say that Click2Brit was not asking about her business (i have since found out), but that of a friend of hers who is in the stages of setting up and looking for a bit of help.
Hope this clears everything up for all.

Your best bet is to speak to students if you do not have a budget. Contact your local univesity and see if anyone there wants to earn a few quid by helping you out. It will be good experience for them and will also help you out.
