Hi, I've recently bought an online shop that has been dead for a while. I'm new to the market & don't have any current suppliers. The problem is so far I have contacted around 15 companies, of which only 2 have responded in a proactive way.
I really do need to have a better understanding of who the suppliers to my market are. I need to be able to compare each of them before I start driving around the country or placing orders.
Can anyone suggest a way of doing this, or maybe you know of a wholesaler that is worth contacting. Only 1 had offered a price list & the rest won't tell you anything unless your on site.
Thanks
Peter

Hi Halo.
I think you're doing things back to front; perhaps you should have researched before you bought the site!
Anyway, the only way to succeed at this is to approach wholesalers directly. You have to do the miles to get the results. They won't deal on the phone for fear of giving out info. to a competitor. The 'rag trade' is renowned for this closed door syndrome.
Check Yellow Pages or other directory, target an area with a bunch of business cards and start dealing. You'll need cash though, you'll rarely get accounts or credit card facilities in this industry.
Cheers, Nigel

I've done research, but until you reach a certain stage you can only go on what you've been told. I do have 2 potential people who fit my needs. It's just that their range is limited. I was really looking for anyone addtional this post might throw up. In an ideal world I want a vendor who can supply closest to my needs.
thanks

It's taken us a couple of years but we have now sourced a couple of good companies. Mainly evening wear though.
Are you going to Harrogate for the Bridal Exhibition in March? As well as the obvious bridal stuff there will be plently of ladies clothes designers that may be of interest to you.
pm me if you'd like any details.
I agree that it's really difficult to find the right suppliers!

I've recently been helping out a wholesaler (is that the right spelling?). Check out her site www.coverandchill.co.uk and see if anything catches your eye.
Cheers,
