Hi all, just wondered what are your views on the Sage Instant Accounting software and the Kashflow software. I am a newbie at this and I am looking for something simple that works on my mac to keep my accounts in order. Please advise

Sage and Kashflow are very different packages.

As an accountant I have looked at both, and in the past have had many clients who have used both.

Sage can be very difficult for non-accountants/people with no bookkeeping/accounting background to use as it uses alot of accounting terminology. Whereas Kashflow is aimed at, and I believe designed by people who arent accountants, and hence is much easier to learn. Kashflow is also unlike Sage an online package, for which you pay a monthly fee.

If you are going to look at an something other than Sage dont just restrict your choice to Kashflow. Their are a huge number of packages. This is no critism of Kashflow at all - its just that their are so many alternatives which you may/may not prefer.

If you do some searches of previous posts on here you'll get lots of suggestions.

You may even decide you dont want to look after your own bookkeeping.

Hi Annette,

The best thing to do is take a free trial of both and see how you get on.

Stand back now and wait for the pseudo-spammers who will be along in the next 24 hours to repeat their only post on UkBF which goes along the lines of "you might want to try our software too" ; )

Free trial.....Sage...do they offer such things:|:|:)

Seriously - I absolutely agree if you are looking at doing your own bookkeeping see which you find easiest/best to use by taking some free trials.

If you plan to use an accountant do also ask for their advice on a suitable package - some accountants have knowledge of certain packages which can be very helpful, and save you fees, and some can get certain packages with special discounts.

We now recommend all our clients use Kashflow. In the last two months we've moved three off SAGE onto Kashflow and the feedback has been excellent. All the movers love the new system and wish they'd made the move earlier.

Kashflow is much, much easier to use than SAGE. It used to take ages to train a new SAGE user, Kashflow takes about an hour and we run them through everything.

You also get some additional brilliant reporting features with Kashflow such as who your key customers are, what are your best product lines, and where does your business come from.

Another name that needs mentioning is Solar Accounts. It's standalone, like Sage, but does come with a free trial, and its far more user-friendly, especially if you don't have any formal accounting training.
