Hi
Was just checking my google webmaster account and found I have suddenly got 17k links turn up!! These links are all from items that were listed on ebay france as all the url's have item titles in them. However when I click on these links they go to ebay.fr but it says the item has been removed.
I am a bit worried this is going to look bad with google and could get the site in trouble but not sure what to do about it?
Also just before anyone ask's I didn't put the links there, in fact no link work has been done for the site since Jan 10.

i am no expert at all and someone may be able to shoot me down but i would say that webmaster tools are just reporting alot more detail, even though they knew about the links before they were just a bit sloppy reporting back to you. I read something about google caffiene but no idea what that is. All in all, just relax and dont worry..... till someone says im wrong anyway :D

You probably had the links for ages, google are really slow at telling you links you pick up, yahoo site explorer is the best.
So i dont think you will be hit by anything negative.

Same thing happened to me the other day. For ages GWT said I had 106 links to my home page - now it tells me I have 9,781. I think they just decided to reveal more that they already know about.

Another vote for Site Explorer here.
Google can be a bit random in trms of reporting the number of inbound links which you have - although you shouldn't totally ignore it.
Do your 17k "ebay" links show up in yahoo/other tools?

Concur with above, but I'd also add that you should check out 'Majestic SEO' - apparently has a bigger link database than anyone ever in the world ever. Free just to get the number of links you've got.

Thanks guys for the help and advice it was just the sudden impact of it at the same time as dropping 10 pages for a search term we had in google.
