Can the UK get Gmail yet? Or is it still a promotional thing in the U.S.A?

So, just in case Google can't monitor users visiting your website using Analytics, they now offer a service so they can track you.

Thank you Lee!

I was budgeting hundreds to have someone do the very same thing for me! I will give it a try soon.

Cheers to you! Hope your weekend is enjoyable,

Practically the whole western web is already under google surviellance... I really hate to think how one business can have so much information - information is power afterall.

I wish people would stop bad mouthing Google as if they are truely mass evil..it's getting a bit pathetic now.

I take it that people that are critisising Google are not using it to promote their business via adwords, organic and even benefiting from adsense?

How is it pathetic that a company has so much information available about you and that we complain about it? I have mentioned before that I'll carry on using them, make a lot of money from them, but their absolute power is just scary. Every single item they release has an upside, yet it's another way of gathering information. Find me 1 thing Google does that doesn't gather information about the user that they don't store for an indefinite period of time. I couldn't care less about their exploits in China and how they now filter information. I care what they do with the information currently available to them. It takes 1 employee to find out every single search you've ever done, and with Analytics the websites you're looking at, and with this new tool, the owners don't even need Analytics. You can see the upside to Google, as I do, but you see them as a bening company, as they currently are.

Do you really think Google think up new ways to give away free software to everyone who wants it without there being some motive behind it?

The problem with Google is that people and indeed the Internet are becoming too reliant on one company.

Site owners rely on Google to drive traffic to their site.

Joe Bloggs relies on Google for their email.

Advertisers reply on AdWords for promotion.

Soon people will rely on Google to build their sites (as above), analyse their sites (using Analytics), raise revenue for their site (using AdSense) and who knows what else.

Every time Google shake up their results the search engine forums are ablaze with site owners damning Google because their site has gone from page 1 to page 57 and their business has dropped off 90%.

Not at all, but simply who doesn't collect information and use cookies to build up information on consumer/site behaviour. Every site has terms and conditions and Google clearly states it's privacy policy and the information it collects.

As Matt points out I think it's more to the point of our dependance of Google that has made it into the machine businesses love to hate.
