I need to migrate all sites, accounts, emails etc from one server to another, both use cpanel, a mixture of static and joomla sites.
Have any of you used the built in cpanel migration tool? I need to know if its reliable.
Many Thanks
Gary

I haven't used it myself, as normally a server move is a good time to split all my stuff up onto new shared accounts, so its all done by hand. But your host may do it for you if you ask...

Sadly neither party are willing to assist, company policies! So it's down to me to research..

As far as I know you'll need WHM at one end, and at least cPanel (or WHM) access at the other. We've used it efficiently recently for some quite large transfers. It copies the whole account, including all the cPanel settings - which is very useful for accounts that have a lot of customisation.

Thanks for that! Shouldnt be too hard, I guess I could do a few accounts at a time to make sure it works ok.

It's generally very quick because you're moving sites from one datacentre to another. Best thing to do is move a site, and then test it on a temporary url - the old site will stay live until you change the DNS.

Hosting companies are normally more than willing to do inward transfers, especially if both plateforms run on Cpanel.
Time to ask yourself a question - what else won't you host do for you?

make sure the if the size of account is large its normally to get it done from Shell access.
Ask you new hosting provider they should do it free for you.
If account size is large there are changes to loss data from cpanel transfer.

The company in question is Heart Internet, I would LIKE to consider them as all my domains are registered through them so it would make life much simpler.
They said they dont assist with migration as all server setups are different, although the guy on like chat (Tak Chan) who I also spoke to on the phone said he would be happy to walk me through it.

Are you aware that they do not have much of a back up system in place and offer no telephone support.
This may not matter to you.

Hi guys,
I am getting
Sorry, the copy failed. Unable to find the cpanel user file. Is the archive missing (cwd: /home loaded cpmove-xxxxx/cp/xxxxx )?
Have any of you had this?
Many Thanks

Sorry but what? Your last line doesn't even make sense.
The cPanel transfer system is excellent, now handles large accounts very well indeed by streaming rather than trying to make a huge archive, and generally runs without hitches.
I've used it countless times and 99% of the time it's fine. The occasional problem when the sending server doesn't behave and odd time it doesn't setup an SSL correctly but that's about it.

This means the archive you're restoring from is incomplete - you'll need to create another one on the other server. However, do you have root access to both servers?
Am surprised your host won't do this for you; it's something best done by a host as they should know all the ins and outs of their systems/cPanel. Of course this completely depends on the package you have and amount of management, etc.
