Getting this on my laptop today, must be linked to me uninstalling MSN 8 and installing MS 7.5 and it wouldnt close down properly last night. Is there anything I can do, I cant see what errors are coming up and it wont let me got into safe mode (list of gobbledygook comes up on screen before it reboots again) and last known working configuration doesnt work either. Any ideas?
Thanks

copy the first section (5 numbers, and error), and query the Microsoft Knowledge Base

Will it boot up in safe mode? If so then bootlog.txt nthe root of your C:\ drive might help/

Hi, try this
• Start the Laptop in Safe mode with Command prompt only.
• Type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and hit enter
Good Luck

Unfortunately it wouldn't start in safe mode either but thank you for your help. It has known gone to my IT man, also known as "my sisters boyfriend" who is brilliant and will have it sorted for me to collect tomorrow. I hate not having my laptop now its just not quite the same changing to my computer!

Hmm...anyone know what guarantee a Toshiba Equium has. We are having problems getting it to work, not sure if this would be covered!

it depends on whats causing the problem, if its software then it wont be covered, dodgy ram can cause BSOD's. as can other things. The problem is, with warranty issues such as this - i.e. unsure of hardware or software, the manufacturer is likely to ask you to do a full "factory restore" of the machine before any warranty repairs are even considered. In addition, what warranty do you have? is it onsite or collect & return? if the latter you may be without your machine for a while.

Well it seems that my CD drive is not working for some reason and the discs that should normally work on it are not working! Where is a good place to take your laptop in for repair though that wont cost an arm and a leg!
I am just outside of my years guarantee as well!
Factory restore wont work the disc wont boot.

fair enough comment on the boot - which should in that case be enough grounds for a warranty repair (daft question but are you sure bios is set to boot from cd? and did you try another bootable cd)
where abouts are you?

My sisters BF who is in IT is trying it for me (Im near to Wigan). He has tried several. Apparently one did boot then froze and then when he tried again wouldnt boot. He has mentioned getting a new cd-rw/dvd rom but the cheapest I have seen is £89 and even then I dont know if it will work!

From what you say it doesnt sound like the root cause is the cdrw/dvd, or indeed that it is faulty, did he try your drive in another machine?
It does sound like memory but saying that, a faulty cpu or board could also give similar problems, and of course with a laptop you cant put a diagnostic card in. If this were me, the first thing I would do now is would be to disconnect the hdd, put in a known working optical drive, swap out the memory and try to boot from a diag cd. The reason I asked where you were is that if you were local I was going to suggest dropping it off, I am not that far but far enough to put your costs up (Blackburn) and I wouldnt be able to look at it there and then.
