Also very significant in numbers are disabled users. Remember that second life came about as virtual world for MS(?) suffers to escape back into a virtual world where disability wasn't an issue? My mother has a 65yr old friend who had polio as a child - she lives on her computer and has a knowledge of technological consumer products far in excess of most 28yr old gadget addicts. She can't walk, can't leave the house alone, can't do her own shopping, but via her computer her life has been revolutionised.

Over 40s control most of the money in our society. And, if you're looking at B2B, it's an even larger share.
So, that brings me to the question: why does your seomy site have tiny text? Don't you want to sell your services to clients with money?

I did an article about business missing out on the disability markit last month and was amazed when doing some research by some of the figures.
Approx 10 million people in the UK are disabled, and with nearly 40% of the population over 40 (age where it is most likely to become disabled), this figure will only rise.
Statistic that really stood out for me was that approx 20% of the UK car market are mobility vehicles.

You should worry.
Apparently I should not be able to recognise a computer let alone turn it on.:|
Word of warning for those about to target the old codgers.
They are much more astute buyers than younger people having had a lifetime of marketing people trying to rip em orf.
Hence they will be looking for true value for money and far less likely to be impressed by Ipodmania e.t.c.

It's not often I agree with RedEvo, but this is one of those times :-)
I may have been in this skin for > 50 years, but I'm still a teenager at heart :-)

50 is nothing!
My parents and their friends who are well into their 70s are always on their computers, internet shopping, facebooking, emailing, buying the latest gadgets, film and music editing, making creative projects, WPing, Ebaying etc.

I have to finish the website but have not had a chance.
Text size will be adjusted steve, i totally agree with you.
Been busy stopping a hacker walking all over 7 cube cart sites.
I do one and he hits another.
Funny thing is that cube cart wont admit the issue, but they have the fixes all over.

Not exactly an independant source, so the figures may be exagerated slightly :)

I find that disabled, eldery and housebound people make up a large percentage of customers in my market. My husband's previous business dealt with a customer base of probably 80% plus of over 50s. The main lead generator was the website. Anyone that ever makes sweeping assumptions that it's only fit and actives, and under 40's that use the web is making a huge mistake.
