Hi all,

I'm thinking of renting out some of the equipment we have downtime for video equipment whilst we are editiing what we have shot. It seems a pity to leave equipment lying around not earning !

Anyway, I'm looking for ideas to prevent theft / insurance etc.

My ideas were:

Get passport and proof of identity.

Insist client gets insurance cover for the duration of the rental.

Reserve a deposit amount on the hirer's credit card.

Would this be enough, or am I missing something ?? Anybody have experience of renting out ?

Ta!

Just a quick reply

It would be safer to get deposit from a credit card. You will need to think about some form of Hire Agreement clearly setting out the terms and conditions of hire i.e. late returns etc

You could approach an insurance broker to get cover against theft etc on a daily basis and charge this to the customer i.e. 5GBP a day. The insurance company may ask for an excess of any claim and this can be the deposit the customer leaves.
