Hi All,

I regularly back-up my inbox and all subfolders. I have accidently deleted a contact from my contact list and want to go into the backed up file to retrieve it, but here's my problem:

The file is a .pst file and when I try to open it, a message appears telling me that I need to choose which program to open it with. I clicked 'find on the web' which told me it was an outlook file (which I knew) but when I try to open it with outlook, it just isn't working.

When I try to import file from outlook FILE menu the file doesn't appear to be available to import!

I need to either recover the deleted contact (but it isn't in the deleted folder) or import this backed-up file

Can anyone help?

Hi Lucy,

Here is a tutorial on how to perform Backup and Restore of Outlook Express.
http://www.sitedeveloper.ws/tutorials/outlook.htm

If you do need help to retrieve deleted files I might be able to help you via Remote Support.

Good luck

Its pretty straight-forward:

File > Import & Export
Import from another program - Next
Scroll down to .pst file option
Browse to where you backed up the pst file
Select Do not Import Duplicates - Next
Select Personal Folders and Import into Same Folder
Then Finish

I'd recommend backing up pst files to a remote service as well for added security ;)

Hi

Thanks for the help. We make wekkly backups of all our systems and keep them off site

Unfortunately the backups have only backed up my inbox and subfolders and not my contacts - never mind its only one name!

Have you checked your recycled folder? If you didn't permanently delete it could be in there? Also try www.backupmystuff.co.uk - great service.

Thanks Anne - I've checked and nothing.

Not to worry - its not a major catatrophe!
