E.g ; http://www.website.com/cpanel
How would I protect my cpanel from being accessed, typed in by visitors; is there a general way or does this depend on the hosting you're with?

Your cpanel should be protected with a username and password when you visit that URL you provided. This is sufficient protection assuming it's a good cpanel :)

you may find this useful it dosent say exactly how to protect your site but a few useful tips on how to find out of you have been hacked or bugged etc. They are pretty secure, but I think the main thing is to occasionally change your password and check your desktop for viruses like key loggers etc.

very strong password is the best way of course. I generally use 16 random letters, symbols and numbers for cpanel and FTP. Never use the same password. I write them down on a big list as any burglar is unlikely to want FTP passwords unless you're a bigger company.
