Hi, I am just interested to see if anyone had any experience with affiliates. Not from the point of view of using them to bring in more traffic, but from making money out of them. If so what kind of money can be made from this and finally would this require me to set myself up as a business?
Any help would be appreciated.

The only program i have made money out of is Global domains international.

However i know that good money can be made through using programs like
www.cj.com
www.omg-uk.com
www.dgm2.com
They run the affiliate programs for a lot of the major online retailers, ebay for example.
But you will need a good site up and rnning before you will be accepted as a publisher for any of these.
Decide on a "theme" or "niche". An example may be a new techno gadget review site. Then you link to the sites that sell these, and get commisions for sales. You must make sure you target audience matches the affiliate programs you are promoting....make sense really!
My new motor website will promote the RAC and AA, aswell as insurance companies etc through the above affiliate networks.

I know some very successful affiliates. They make their entire income from affiliate commissions.
If you would like a forum full of useful affiliate information see http://www.a4uforum.co.uk

I know at least 1 person 1st hand that makes all his income from affiliate links. He does it well and works hard to stay ahead of the game - he also does not spam.
I also know this guy is an exception and that for every one that does it properly theres 10,000 that don't.
It's never as easy as people make out..

I'm going to be setting up ours over the next few weeks. This will be a third party application intergrated with our site.

What I like about this is that I'm in control - no middleman taking a 30% cut - hence we can pass that on to the affliate.
As Mark said a4uForum is a good place to pick up some info (And they do good get togethers from time to time, we went to the on in Brighton with a free bar sponsored by Virgin Money)
