Website Name Suggestion

Hi,

I have a website under works and I am not sure about the domain name I should opt for.

I want to use something along the lines of doyou-----.com. The website isl basically a free online utility aimed at different demographics.

So my question is, do you think that having a domain name with 'doyou' will be effective and helpful or should I go for another name entirely.

I hope I can disclose more, but this will have to do for now.

My own view is different, with so many sites, I think you need something that will stick in your target markets mind.

I don't think that the site address has to be what the site is about, but should grab the attention of people, follow this up with a good site once people click on it, and hopefully they will come back time and time again.

I am not a techo (put me right if wrong) but if the site was SEO correctly would people not find you anyway, irrespective of what you called it.

When I am searching I more often than not, search on the terms I am looking for rather than a name.

Be quirky be original.

There is some discussion over using keywords in a domain name which is great if it very niche but if it's more mainstream then the effect diminishes (think amazon).

On the other hand, using your brandname can have an even bugger effect.

It is entirely up to you. The name should be dictated by your business plan imho. It is all good having keywords in your domain but if you business changes direction in two years time and you enter another market then your name no longer makes sense.

At the same time, depending on who your target audience is, the name should be aimed at them. A luxury product needs a luxury name/brand where a cheap product may work better if it is descriptive.

Maybe you could shortlist some names and ask people (who are in your target market) to suggest which one they would prefer

it's so cheap to have multiple domains, why not create more than one ?

you could create a couple of sites with keywords in the name, and one site with an easy to remember name. people searching for the keywords would find the keyword sites which could redirect to the easily remembered domain name.

if people remember that name, great, they can go directly to that site in future.

If you have one in mind and you like it, and have liked it for at least a few days then it's probably good.

I agree with you. thrungemusket would be my choice over any concatenation of keywords.

The other advantage of a made up name as NuBlue suggests is it can asbsorb changes in business model. for example, books.co.uk doesn't indicate they sell other products but amazon can do anything.

IT's upto you really. It will be easier to rank a website whose domain is keyword specific to the site e.g.
owning greenpyjamas.co.uk will be easier to rank for the term green pyjamas than ranking bluemushroom.co.uk for the same term but the latter is a more brandable name imho.

I agree - keyword rich domain names to rank quickly. If you are trying to build up a brand then take a long term approach, buy the brandable domain name and build it up. you can always redirect the traffic or interlink your sites at a later date.
