I am an Accountant and I have been messed around for 3 months now by HMRC. It started 3 months ago when I logged into my HMRC online services to submit a handful of SA tax returns. I logged in like normal but got an error message saying:
You have tried to access a page that you have no permission to view.

This is because when you log into the online services it takes you straight to Self Assessment (SA) for Agents and for some reason I had been de-enrolled. Now I enrolled for SA for Agents a few years ago when I made the change from working at an Accountants to becoming a Self Employed Accountant. So I couldn't understand why I had been de-enrolled. Anyway after phoning countless offices and departments with HMRC and being passed around like a hot potato all day I finally got some sense from someone. They told me I must have accidently de-enrolled myself in the HMRC services, although they had no idea how I did it as they had never heard of this... (or knew how to do it)
So they told me to re-enrol (which was a pain but I did) and I spent a few weeks waiting for the post to arrive. Nothing arrived but I did get an e-mail:
Dear Sir/Madam
Thank you for registering for HMRC's Online Services.
Your UserID/Activation Code/Password has not been issued because either;
we do not hold an up to date address for you or; your tax record is now
ceased.
We advise you to call your Tax Office to check your details.

After contacting my Tax Office they informed me I had been ceased as an Agent by the CAAT AM team. I was told there was NO phone number for the CAAT AM team and that I was to write to them asking them why I had been ceased as an Agent. I should also ask them to reverse what they have done so I can re enrol for SA online and get some work done.
Ironically by chance (and the fact I have heard nothing from the CAAT AM team) I decided to ring round different Tax Offices and departments (as I know they all give contradicting information) I asked for the number for the CAAT AM team to each office and to my surprise one of them gave me a phone number!?!?!? 08459158582 Unfortunately this number just rings and rings.
PROBLEMS...
1. I have clients ringing me asking why I have not submitted their tax returns when I told them over 3 months ago they would be done within a few days!
2. I have had virtually NO Income in the last 3 months putting HUGE financial strain on myself and family. Much longer and I am likely to lose my business.
3. I am likely to lose some of my clients I have worked hard to get over the past few years. As they are not impressed with me (not that any of this is my fault)
4. I can't take on new clients as I can't get into the SA online area to do anything.
Any ideas please?
Does this number definitely work?
How long will it take the CAAT AM team to write back to me?
Regards
Another Accountant
P.S Imagine if this happened in December or January!!! Imagine if I was a bigger Accountants working in an office in the Town Centre with large overheads... 99% of my clients are SA and I need this sorted ASAP
