Email marketing is a great opportunity to reach out to millions of people in a matter of seconds. Through opt-in email addresses the response rate is real high, and so the internet allows email marketers great chances for profit, list building, and traffic. But, besides the simplicity of email marketing there are some basics to understand to know that you’re going through it in the best way.
Like mentioned, there are great benefits to email marketing, so it makes sense to take time to understand it. There’s a few benefits of marketing through email & I will quickly cover them here.
Fast-
First, the greatest benefit of all is the fast approach of email and the just as fast responses. It is possible to send out your first email and then get orders in the inbox in minutes. Email marketing is pretty much the fastest and amazing out of all marketing methods when you use it correctly.
Testing-
Marketing emails will usually have to be tested. Testing is a typical part of any kind of marketing. With email marketing the testing is much faster since the process of email marketing is sped up anyways, and so testing various emails will be faster.
Affordable-
When doing email marketing not much money has to be spent. All that is needed is a computer, internet, and time to write an email. Email marketing in general is free although you will have to pay for other things in order to do so.
Response- Another amazing part about email marketing is the ability to get responses in almost light speed; basically minutes. The reason is that the individual on the receiving end will receive the email and then make a decision. They will either delete your email without reading it, delete it after reading some or all, or read it and buy what you’re promoting/marketing. And the best part is those that are happy with the product or purchase could forward it to friends or family, thus increasing sales and your customer base.

How about using both...
I make thousands a month from email marketing - and I also make money indirectly from social media, through the relationships I build!
There isn't one solution in marketing - the power is when you mix it all up!

There certainly are. However, e-mail marketing can be a difficult task.
Be sure you look into:
1. CAN-SPAM laws
2. High quality list brokers that can provide fresh, targeted lists
3. E-mail distribution system with high deliver ability rates.
Some of these systems and the laws can be tricky.
But if you have the resources and the right systems inn place, I still believe e-mail is one of,if not, the best marketing in which a business can participate

Good post Ralph. Definitely agree with what you have said.
remember that your data needs to be opt-in and you also need to abide by the regulations such as having an unsubscribe link.

Hi Ralph,
CAN-SPAM only applies to the USA not Europe.
The Data Protection Act applies to the UK and is far more stringent than CAN-SPAM, but if you're serious about email marketing (http://www.wizemail.co.uk) then the DPA should hold no fear as it is mostly common sense.
We've got a sub section on our UKBF blog on Email Marketing Law (http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/blog.php?u=66838&blogcategoryid=68) and the DPA is covered, CAN-SPAM will pop up later, but essentially (from memory) you cannot disguise the originator of the email & there must be a valid email address in the content which is read by a human on the other end.
Although there seems like reams of info to digest in the DPA, as mentioned it is pretty much common sense, so not to be feared if you're planning professional email marketing (http://www.wizemail.co.uk)
The blog entry above expands on this greatly.
All the best,
Don

remember that your data needs to be opt-in and you also need to abide by the regulations such as having an unsubscribe link.
Although I completely agree from a best practice perspective, this isn’t strictly speaking true on either count.
Business to consumer (public) data must be opt-in – no ifs or buts
Business to business (B2B) data does not – best practice aside
If B2B data needed to be opt-in only how would a company pitch another company with its services, either by telephone, snail-mail or email?
You can communicate with an employee of a limited company without their express permission (opt-in).
On the unsubscribe front, you’re nearly right... again, best practice suggests that you must include an unsubscribe link (Wizemail adds one by default to all campaigns sent) but the law does not stipulate this.
The DPA stipulates that the recipient must be able to unsubscribe from the communication within a reasonable amount of time (28 days I think comes within this, but this is merely opinion), that it costs nothing to do so (other than the cost of transmission – email, telephone call or stamp), but does not stipulate a single method, so your unsubscribe mechanism could be ‘telephone us’, ‘email unsub to us’ or even write to us at a snail-mail address!
Best practice suggests your data should be opt-in (and by far gets the best results hands-down) and that your unsubscribe mechanism is immediate, automated and adds the recipient to a suppression list so that they are never accidently emailed again in future, but the law does not.
Best,
Don
