Hi All

I have designed my own website for a small part-time business I am about to start and would like to pick up all emails on a smartphone, rather than have to keep checking for emails using a PC.

I have already brought the domain name via 123reg, but am yet to buy hosting. I will buy this once the site is ready to go and after I receive some much needed advice in relation to my query below (just in case i need Windows hosting rather than Linux).

What and how is the best way to sync emails and receive them on a smartphone? and is there any specific software required?

Secondly, what smartphone would you guys recommend? I am aware that most people would choose a BlackBerry for business email use, but I believe the iPhone has the ability to display a HTML/CSS email signature - a little feature I am keen on, unless anyone objects or comes up with any other suggestions?

Many thanks

Kind regards

Use google apps for domains for your emails they have IMAP which allows syncing between desktop, web and smartphones.

We offer hosting (hint hint) and we automatically will setup Google Apps emails for you when we create the hosting account so its simple.

Imap is better than POP, and exchange is better than imap BUT exchange will cost you money!

EDIT: just seen you also want phone suggestions, go what your comfortable with, but ideally I would say iphone (but hold off a month and get the new one maybe). Blackberry if you only care about email and not bothered about apps and great internet experience.

... and exchange is better than imap

In what way exactly?

By better I simply meant with regards to pretty much seamless syncing of contacts, calendar and tasks as well as emails

iboxsecurity, thanks for your reply.

So overall, would I be correct in saying you suggest the following:

standard Linux hosting package
Google Apps to manage my domain name email account

If so, what is the Google email client like? I have not used Google Mail before.

And, as you have suggested Google Apps, do you think the Google-based Nexus One be a better choice than an iPhone?

Kind regards

Yes correct we provide linux hosting plans and will setup Google apps on your domain name and setup the appropriate emails for you at the beginning.

Google mail is the same as Gmail - the user interface is extremely easy to use and the search functionality and huge inbox space (7gb+) means you never have to delete an email if you don't want to and can always search to find it quickly and easily.

I would suggest you hold off from the nexus one as there will be better android phones coming out very soon. But if you want to choose between current phones iphone 3gs and nexus one id choose the nexus.
