Hi there

Sadly due to councils raising their costs to hire football parks from 1st April we have to increase our match fees from £18 to £20 per game.

I am a bit nervous about writing to all teams to let them know about this.

I have put the following together:

Dear Team Manager

Due to the overal price increases of council hire costs, we must
unfortunately raise the cost of our match fees to £20.

We have avoided raising our prices for as long as
possible, but we can no longer prolong the inevitable.

The new price increases will come into effect on the 1st April 2006. All match prices until that date will be honored at the lower
price of £18.

We wish to thank you for your valued custom and know that
you will understand the necessity for this price increase.

Can anyone help? I have never had to do this before.

Regards

Stuart

Hi Stuart,
You can't do much better than that with what's happened, unless you have a sponsor who will cover it.
Can you bring the date forward a week because some may think it's an April Fools Day joke.

Cheers, Nigel

The letter looks good to me. The only other thing I would suggest is pointing out how small an amount this is per player. Presumably, if we're talking 5-a-side, the cost is £2 per person, which remains excellent value.

Your letter sounds fine to me.

People understand that prices rise, you could state that the reason is due to the councils prices rises.

Pretty good. Nice, simple and straight-forward.

As Steve suggested, it might be worth breaking down the increase by player. If it's 10 players, that's 20p a player.

You could say that you need to increase the price by £2. Reason being, subliminally, £2 sounds absolutely negligible!

cannot really see what the problem is, its still excellent value.
Hardly going to break the bank

A further thought:

Could you write to the council to ask them to withdrw the price increase on the grounds that the league is providing a much needed exercise opportunity to one of the least healthy parts of the UK?

If you did that, you could add a PS to your letter that says:

"PS I wrote to the council to point out that our league supports their campaign for a healthier Glasgow and asked them cancel their price increase. If they agree to do that, we'll put our prices back to £18."

Steve

PS "honored" should be "honoured". Don't let that yankee spellchecker get the better of you!

Could be some local press intrest on the last point.
