Hi everyone I am new to the forum and would appreciate if anyone could
give me any assistance in completing a self assessment. I use one room in the house to run my business which is music tution. I know I can claim mileage for my car at 40 pence per mile. Do I fill in box 11 car travel expenses. Can you also claim a proportion of your rates, house insurance and mortgage interest for the use of one room. I have music instruments two of which I purchased last year, the remaining instruments a few years ago. Can I claim AIA or capital allowances for any of them. My business started last May. Can anything be reclaimed for hire purchase of a car bought in 2008, but currently still paying it. A proportion of the car is used for business use. Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Kev

Quite a lot to cover there so here are some pointers:

use of home as office

motor expenses

AIA - depends on costs but could just write off.

I would suggest the free HMRC course on self assessment here:
