Hello all,

I was interested in the forums opinion on Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

I have just started putting my staff through the sales training and break through sessions offered.

I’m getting great results; my staff are more motivated and productive.

I’m having my first session this Saturday. Has anyone else had experience with NLP.

Regards,
Craig

Well I'm going on a training day soon which has an nlp session so I guess I'll find out.

the only thing that I wonder about is the whole 'make it happen' idea. You can't make anything happen just by visualising and being positive about it. Or maybe I have the wrong end of the stick there.

Hi Craig,

I'm a little cautious about this sort of thing myself - but I know it works for people like Tony Robbins and he's used it to get millions to buy his courses so I suppose there must be something in it.

I had a trial with a life coach once which went well - unsure if it was NLP or not.

Wasn't there a TV program recently that explored this and tried to "program" people to steal from a cash delivery firm? Or am I thinking of something else?

I've been on an NLP overview session (free of course) and it is very interesting.

There are plenty of books available, NLP: The New Technology of Achievement is the one I have. This is far more cost effective than a course in my opinion.

My company put us on an NLP course and it was very interestin and I di manage to get my husband to do the housework, once I understood him more LOL.

Its all about being a visual, Audio or Kinesthetic person and how you learn.

It needs follow up sessions though as after a couple of weeks al out staff that were not into holistic stuff reverted back to their old ways.

I cant see how it would really work in sales as you need to understand a person to make NLP work for you and you cant get to know someone in 2 seconds on the phone. I guess it can make you more positive a person, but hey ho!

Hi Craig

I've been around a few people in the NLP field, including having a client who was a hypnotherapist/NLPer and I've learned a number of things from it.

For those interested, when used in therapy, it tends to go hand-in-hand with hypnosis. If anyone saw the Paul Mckenna series on Sky last year called, I think, "I can change your life", he used a lot of NLP techniques and that should give you a good idea.

Derren Brown uses some NLP too, but mainly hypnosis and a few other interesting things.

From what I remember, his recent program "The Heist" that Coxadmin mentioned didn't use much NLP to get the people to rob the security guard. That was hypnosis and a lot of psychological persuasion techniques (plus a hell of a lot of selectivity in choosing his final subjects). One "NLP thing" he did do was to use the Jackson 5 song as a trigger to create the mental state where they'd be likely to do the robbery.

Its all about being a visual, Audio or Kinesthetic person and how you learn.

I'd disagree with this.

I remember hearing NLP founder Richard Bandler say there there is no such thing as auditory, visual or kinesthetic people. I thnk he said "put anyone in a room with a bunch of naked people and they're going to get visual!"

It needs follow up sessions though as after a couple of weeks al out staff that were not into holistic stuff reverted back to their old ways.

I would suggest that that might be a reflection on the quality of the trainer. I've known NLP therapists that get lasting behavioural change with a single session.

I cant see how it would really work in sales as you need to understand a person to make NLP work for you and you cant get to know someone in 2 seconds on the phone.

2 seconds? I doubt anyone's sold anything over the phone in 2 seconds, unless the client was already desperate to buy.

If people want to learn more, I'd suggest Bandler's book "Using Your Brain For A Change" which is quite light reading. If that's out of print, then the book Matt mentioned.

Hi

I went on an Anthony Robbins weekend a few years back, it was absolutely great. His central idea was based on NLP, and when you think about it , NLP does make a lot of sense.

However I do believe that there is no point in putting someone through a NLP course who is unwilling or not interested, the subject has to want it to work.

I agree. I used to work with a NLP Master Trainer who was trained and licensed by Richard Bandler himself and very often had fantastic results with just one session simply because he was very good at what he did and that included hypnotherapy.

We regularly spoke to Richard and another trainer called John La Valle about various aspects of NLP and its effects and discovered that Richard Bandler has changed his thinking on some aspects of NLP, and as a result has developed it further to what he calls DHE (Design Human Engineering).

Oh well Hey Ho, just giving you my experience of NLP. Never said I was an expert or anything, but what I did do (poor trainer or not) made my hubby do the housework, so I'm not complaining!

Well I expect it was easier for him to do it rather than spend time retraining you

I wanted to update the forum on my NLP experience.

I had a great day with the trainer. I feel motivated and focussed towards my goals.

I would highly recommend NLP to all.
