I just typed "home" into my browser and found out that it goes to NASA. How is this possible.

If you take a look at the page analysis, there is no keyword optimisation whatsoever.

I can understand that they have a PR 10 but how is it possible that they get first position for "home".
Was it not just a week ago that bmw.de got removed from Google's index, with the explanation that the search term did not reflect the page information displayed.
As far as I am aware NASA is not home...or am I wrong?

I call Earth home,
but I see your point, are we seeing the beginning of the demise of google as it continues to be bound by the constraints of its size.
With Yahoo (allegedly) giving the Chinese gov info to torture its own people I think there is definite scope for a new internet leviathon.

I think with incredibly generic words, like "home", Google probably have a bit of a laugh. If you look at the sites in the top 10 they are all very authoritive sites in their field, so possibly they are hand-picked by Google to appear top for that phrase?

Nasa's site appearing for the single keyword 'home' might have something to do with it having 1,660,000 links to it's home page which actually use the word 'home' for the link text.
With 658,000 internal pages it appears that each page has 2 or 3 links pointing to the home page using the single word 'home' which is the main reason it's #1 for the keyword 'home'.
This same thing happened to George Bush's personal biography page in Google, the technique is called 'Google Bombing' and in respect of George Bush the keywords are 'miserable failure' which list him at #1 through the same technique of link bombing and the other well known Google Bomb is John Prescott MP.
His keyword Bomb is toooo sensitive to mention on the forum. :-)
Hope that helped :-)

He's no longer on Google for his famous keyword but a quick dig into Yahoo & Msn shows he's still a popular lad.
Pick the first letter from each of these 4 words
'for unlawful carnal knowledge' then add the word 'wit' to them so you have one 7 letter word. Then go to Yahoo or Msn
and say Hi John :-)
