Hi all.

My name is Stephen Kittner, I run SK1 Media a new marketing company that focuses on Social Media marketing.

Im putting together a blog article pinpointing businesses that successfully use social media, particularly Facebook and Twitter.

Much of my business is focused around these two platforms, and I have helped create a number of successful campaigns for small local businesses.

However, I would like to know if any of you know of any businesses that are successfully using these platforms. I have so many potential customers that believe that its good to have a presence, but its not really somewhere that can be developed as a focal point to generate sales and leads. I whole heartedly disagree with this, though results form my clients are varied.

Is social media worthwhile for business?
Do any of you have a Facebook or Twitter presence that is generating sales?
What ways do you engage with your clients using social media?
How much time/cash do you put into social media?

discuss.....

:o)

Just search "mumpreneur group" on facebook and you will find hundreds of women using facebook to promote their businesses and extremely successfully.

The best example is probably Sock Monkey and Crazy Critters Store (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sock-Monkey-Crazy-Critters-Store/358732027409?ref=ts) which is sold exclusively on Facebook and has created a whole new following and business for the creator. The Sock Monkeys sell out within seconds of posting them live which is amazing for a business that doesn't even have a website.

I think overall Facebook is not the right platform for every business. Although this does depend on what the business owner has to say and how involved they are in their business - for example I wouldn't expect to see a plumber from the east end of London having a facebook page unless he/she was using it to promote products/give free advice etc or in some other unique way to generate interest.

It may be the case that in the future Facebook will become a search engine where people use it to search for business/products/tradesmen but that is a big "if" and a LONG way off yet IMO.

Kind Regards

Emma

I always wondered what happened to Roger Whittaker after his singing career!

We get good traffic from Facebook. I'm not sure how to measure conversions though.

I would want to learn how to use Facebook and Twitter to promote a business too :) How do I start by the way? Should I invest on Facebook ads to promote a page?

They're both effective, but in different ways and at different rates. Twitter is fast and ever-changing, whereas the facebook presence is likely to offer a more stable and reliable presence. Before investing in ads, a good idea is to build a good, trustful online presence.
