Hi,

I have been looking at one of these as a way of accessing my email while on the move or away from the office. Have any of you tried the Compact MDA from T-Mobile? How do you find it?

I would appreciate your advice before I commit to anything.

Thanks.

I have the bigger brother, XDA Exec, and I no longer use it, because it takes so long to boot up when someone calls. Yes,it has to boot up. There are the following 3 major flaws that I have found many other people experiencing

1) It will take a mimimum of 3 rings before your phone starts ringing, meaning you have less time to answer
2) After these 3 rings, expect to wait 2 seconds longer to see who is calling
3) Once you click 'Answer' expect to wait 1 second before the person on the other end can hear you, thus making you constantly answering, waiting and then having to say 'Hello?' again.

However, it does actually pick up e-mails, so if that's all you want, sure. But it often cuts out even doing that.

I have the original XDA from O2, and I have never experienced any of the problems you mentioned when receiving calls, I've never used it for web browsing or email though.

I had an XDA IIs from O2, before they upgraded me for free to the XDA Exec. It was even worse, and I had 2 different versions, but it had none of the problems above. That was running Mobile 2006, whereas the Exec is Mobile 5.0. I've just given up now and just accept it's a waste of money.

I use an MDA Vario on a t-mobile plan as I spend so much time out of the office and wanted something that allowed me to synch with outlook.

It is great! It allows me to see emails as they arrive and then synch's them with outlook when it is hooked up with the PC.

I must admit that when we were with Zen hosting and all our email went through them emails going astray was a common element, but since we have moved to Matrixx things are ace.

Rob has even sat patiently with me and talked me through setting it all up over the phone so email is now working better than ever.

An added plus is that the internet connection means that I can now cheat far more effectively on pub quizes. :D

So the XDA Exec is just as bad as the previous incarnations? That's bad - would have hoped they improve those problems. I was looking forward to a free upgrade in June but I might not bother now :(
