I'm putting together a leaflet, it was going to be one sheet of A5 folded in half - but I've just found out that for various reasosn this needs to go out in a DL envelope (1/3 of A4).
A folded A5 is just slightly too big, by about 1cm.
Is there a standard size that is slightly smaller that will fit comfortably in a DL envelope?

Hi,
You could fold an a4 page into 3 to make it a DL fitted Leaflet. It would mean you may have to redesign but you could easily send it out then.
Does this help?

Hi Callum,
We were initially thinking of that. Sort of concertina style. Problem with that is there's a lot of wasted space (the two rear panels are unlikley to get looked at)
I like the idea of one fold, it works better with what we are trying to do.

Cut 1/3 off an A4 sheet?

If you are sending out a DL envelope then there are a couple of options depending on what you are trying to communicate.
One option is to have a covering letter with a DL printed flyer.
Another is to have an A4 sheet folded to DL. You could do concertina fold or fold in on itself depending on what suited your design best.
Or you could do the double DL folded flyer as suggested above.
Alternatively you could go for a C6 envelope, which is slighty larger than A6 (which is A5 folded in half).

Why do you think the two rear panels are unlikely to be looked at?
Your designer shouldn't advise against a 3 fold - in fact, they are sometimes better I think, because it allows more information within the leaflet - there is only 1 rear side, which would contain your contact details!

It's a multi purpose marketting leaflet that we'll be using in a few different ways - initially though they are going out with someone elses mailing which has to be in a DL envelope.
It wasn't the designer that suggested not to go with a 3 fold. We mocked it up and just felt it doesn't work well with what we are trying to do.
So, I guess there's no standard size that is a little smaller than A4, might have to go for a chop!

Maybe your right - get the guiltine out!

You're probably asking the wrong question.

Why not approach a paper merchant (print trade supplier) and have an A4 ream or two, cut to size, they probably won't even charge for the service.

It may seem a silly idea but have you thought about reavping the design so that you could fold your A5 leaflet vertically? That way it would still fit into the envelope and the unusual, tall thin format may attract more attention.
