Shopping portal do they affect ranking?

Hi, I am looking t sign up with a shopping portal company my mind is in between Ciao and shopping.com, ( I sell French skin care) now the problem I have is I have read that duplicate content can affect your ranking. Anybody got any experience with this? Thanks

Duplicate content affects ranking where you have a similar site with the same content. However for things like this (and it also covers articles which link back to your site) then google looks for the original content which is the oldest content and keeps that as the priority.

Im not sure about Bing though - Bing seems to be operating deliberately differently not necessarily better!

Duplicate content can affect a site, but not in this way. Search engines look at the whole of the page code, and decide on a level of uniqueness across the web. I am assume from expeerience that you are tied into product descriptions titles etc anyhow by the manufacturer (this is normally the case with designer fragrances etc), so there is not a lot you cna do about that element.
