Just wondered if having lots of domain names all to one website has any advantages?

Thanks

I can't imagine it would, unless they're all advertised! I've heard of it being done to track visitors from different promotions. some of us just buy other domains as 'security' of our name, and then just 'point' that domain at our main one.
Cheers, Nigel

Do you mean multiple TLD's eg .com .net .cc etc

or

Do you mean alternative keywords such as planes.com charters.com etc?

Can have a reverse effect and get you booted out of directories like DMOZ!

Both really.

Do people prefer .com or .co.uk?

As stated elsewhere,

.com .co.uk is an essential element of your domain stratergy unless you are really in hot territory.

You can get penalised for multiple domains hosting the same content but not multiple domains pointing to the same site.

I always advise clients to strive firstly for a good name, then for all combinations of .com and .co.uk (other local tld if applicable) as many other versions of the domain as they can buy (project dependent) and then as many related keywords domains to generate traffic.

I remain amazed by the number of 'marketing gurus' who overllook this cheap and accessible source of traffic that on occassion can actually make you money!
