View Full Version : Cold call from SEO agencies

I've just spent an hour creating a beautiful listing in the Hotfrog directory [over my lunch] barely had my mouse clicked the 'save now' button I had a cold call from an SEO company selling me page one of Google for £20 a month. After I had let him blabber on for 10 minutes I asked him where he had found us, and he said Hotfrog.

After a look in the T's and C's I can't see whether the directory allows or discourages cold calls, there's no mention that I can see, anyone out there know a definitive answer before I send an email to the generic query email?

[BTW I admit to having a bit of fun with the guy on the phone lol]

Chances are it wasn't hotfrog, but someone just going through their recent listings page (if they have one).

Cold callers abusing my directory cause massive problems to me, I get all the google reseller types regularly going though my pages and even have one lot who have started to phone people in my directory and telling them
their listing is about to expire, and then trying to charge them for an upgrade.

It is so bad at the moment that I have had to temporarily remove telephone numbers from listings

Ongoing problem here :P
Can be funny though when someone trys to see you top page on google for pennies and they havent a clue how to even lie about it when you question them on it.

Im forever getting clients who have been shafted like that , but its been like £150 or £200 quid with these promises , not £20 quid lol .

As your probably know Harry , the biggest time spent being an SEO is convincing a client you aint one of these robbing gits who give out all this nonsence!

He launched into full sales pitch without asking me the question "Do you currently use Adwords" so I let him continue.

After a few minutes I couldn't contain myself any longer and told him next time to research the company before he rang them. A simple google search for 'futon' would have had my client at the top of PPC results, then he would discover that an Adwords campaign is already in place. Stupid.

God it really gets on my **** (hope I am able to say that) but these blo8dy companies give SEO's a bad name. I have so many clients who have just been ripped off in the past - makes me mad - sorry for the rant!

If you are going to provide a service make sure you do the best you can - if I feel I can't help a client I tell them - Robbing Basta8ds !!!!!

Why not go on the Commercial TPS.

Now am on PAYG call answering it makes sense not to pay for the privilege of being cold called.

I have been called several times by a company called searchrankresults, literally within minutes of putting a listing on Free Index.

Sales guy spouted a list of blatant lies and ended up getting quite upset when I called him on them.

I feel sorry for companies that fall prey to these kind of outfits.

Why not go on the Commercial TPS

I got to say that the TPS doesnt work - we've been on it 3 times now and we still get telesales calls big time.

Suggest you get TrueCall instead.
