Watcha,

First time I have ventured onto the "techy" bit of the forum...

Quick question... has anyone else noticed their site stats going haywire over the last month?

Not sure if it is due to the google thing Richard mentioned a few weeks ago?

The thing is, the traffic has pretty much trebled but... actual enquiries have not gone up at all*.

This makes me think, a, it is something to do with the copy on the site (but we are changing this and the current text has worked really well for us so I don't think this is it), b, the traffic is not relevent to what we offer or, c, it is the google thing just referencing the site?

The other mystery bit is that the site stats thingymewotist that we use is not showing a great jump in referrals from any specific site... they look the same as normal... but the unique visitors thing has gone through the roof?

Anyone got any suggestions as it is driving me mad trying to work out what is going on and why we are not commercially benefitting from this new load of hits.

*just to be clear, i don't want a site review!

:D

I would suggest it is Google crawling, as the same thing is happening on a couple of my sites.

Further analysis of the logs should confim if it's Googlebot that accounts for the increase.

Email me log in details for the stats if you want me to take a look.

Yes Google appears to be spidering furiously at the moment, especially in the last 24 hours.

If it was just 'hits' or page impressions then in could be a crawler.

But if Andy has had a big increase in unique visitors, then surely that is more human visitors as well?
