Hi all

now i realise this is the computing and internet site, but as we are all teccies here as well i thought i would ask if anyone has the TomTom navigation device?

If you have, what device do you have only i am tihnking og getting one?
There are three types i think Go300 500 and the Go700

Are these things as good as they say?

I don't have a sat nav but a friend does, (although it's not a TomTom) It's truly amazing technology.

We drove across Glasgow and it gave clear vocal instructions, navigating every junction including roundabouts etc. go off route i.e diversion etc. and it knows and automatically compensates.

It directed us to our destination, almost to the door.

I visit a lot of clients in their own homes, towns etc. and I would love one of these, I think TomTom are probably one of the best, but their a quite expensive. I'm saving my pennies.

I have used a TomTom Navigator with my Palm Tungsten T3 for about 18 months now. I can honestly say I would be lost without it. Pre TomTom if I went to meet a new client etc. I would mess about printing of maps that I would have to try and read while driving. Now I just plug the Post Code into the Palm and it takes me straight to their door.

Aside from the actual navigation on of the most useful things I find with it is the "Estimated Time Of Arrival" You can instantly see if you are running early or late and adjust your driving accordingly.

Without a doubt the most useful and cost effective gadget I have ever bought. :D

My two previous cars had Sat Nav built in but I chose to install a Tom Tom 300 in my current car and after extended use I will never go back to a built in system again.
The Tom Tom 300 is equally as accurate and reliable as the two built in systems that I have used and also has the added advantage of being able to download accurate information on every SAFETY CAMERA, fixed and mobile locations via the PocketGPSworld website.
Trust me, onece you've used one of these little babies you will wonder how you've survived without one.

Kind regards

Dave

I bought TomTom5 for my Palm Tungsten T5 a fw months ago and I've never looked back since (or at a map for that matter). If you can stretch to the 700, go for it. :)

You will not be disappointed. 8)

For those of us who don't have a 'spare' 700 hangin' around, are any of the 'budget' models worth considering? Would a, say, £300 unit be worthwhile. Don't give me the, 'you get what you pay for' line!

Nigel the '700' is the model no. not the cost:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000816M6W/202-7798601-4886260

AS you can see it is about £400.

The 300 which funnily enough IS £300 is a great piece of kit also:

The one I mentioned above, was on sale at LIDL stores for only £199.00. I know it's not a TomTom but it does the same job, and (I think) it has some PDA software built in to it.

I'm waiting until I can afford a TomTom with built in Bluetooth, It's also an in car hands free which can be moved between different cars.

well i took the plunge today and bought one.

Tested it on a run, and i jnow say with confidence i do not think i will be without it.

I need to visit clients now in the job that i do, this involves driving in a transit that i am not used to, and map reading.
Well something had to give and i tihnk the TomTom is worth its weight in gold. I bought the Go300 in the end.

It's worth its weight in gold at the very least because it keeps your eyes on the road (once the novelty wears off!) rather than on an awkward hard copy map.

It'll doubtless save many lives...

Congratulations on your purchase, now don't forget to visit http://pocketgpsworld.com/ to download your safety camera data and this will help save your licence and therefore livleyhood as well !!

well i have now updated mine, it has the speed camera locations, deicded not to add the other bits for now as i see no need.

As with all here though i can see that the TomTom will not stray too far from me and the car :-)
An amazing piece of kit

Aren't sat navs a bit naff? I heard they take you to the outskirts of a town that you've never heard of and then switch off. Helpful  !

What's wrong with a good old map?!!
