Hi all,
How do you process credit card payments received over the phone? I use Paypal for processing online payments but as far as I can see they don't allow you to process telephone payments.
Any cheap, preferably free, ideas?!!
Thanks.

We use a merchant account from our bank (setup fees plus per transaction fees) in conjunction wsith the £10 per month virtual terminal service from www.protx.com.
You just log on to the Protx terminal from any internet connected PC, key in the card details and job done.
Be aware though that CNP (cardholder not present) transactions require you to be certain it is th ecardholder you are talking to otherwise you run a risk of chargebacks in the even tof fraud.

Ye, when you ring up o2 like I do when I top-up, you key in your details to the lovely robot lady and swish, all done. Surely you could get whatever they've got and do it the same way?

I have a merchant account with Barclays, small chip & pin PDQ terminal sits on my desk cost £12.00 + vat, p/m (I think).
When a customer phones in an order they provide the usual information, including some personal details which are keyed in on the PDQ terminal and checked agains the information held by the card issuer, the terminal then advises whether all or some of the information is correct, you then have the option to accept or decline the transaction.
They also offer a facility for accepting online payments but I'm not sure of the cost.

I think I may go down the route of setting up an over the phone ordering system as I am currently losing alot of business because I can't process orders over the phone.
Does anyone know how much HSBC charge for a terminal?

If you are not doing any face-to-face transactions then this is probably your best bet. £10 a month. No terminal to hire. All done via a web browser:

Only other thing you need is a merchant account from the bank.
